Area Attractions
General InformationConveniently located in the center of San Francisco. Walking distance to the Castro District, Soma, Union Square and Moscone Convention Center. It is also just four blocks to the Civic Center area. The Antique Street Car Line that stops in front of the motel makes any of these places easy excursions. Buses to Fisherman's Wharf and Golden Gate Park are within two blocks. Davies Symphony Hall, SF Opera House, City Hall, Asian Art Museum, Main Public Library, Alamo Square (Postcard Row), Union Square (shopping), numerous elegant restaurants nearby.
Fisherman's WharfFamous Fisherman's Wharf incorporates shopping, restaurants and sightseeing all in one remarkable place. One of a kind stores will delight every shopper. Whether your in the mood for hot clam chowder served in a bread bowl, or want to relax in one of the several dining restaurants overlooking the water, you'll find it here.
AlcatrazBetter known as "The Rock". Sean Connery and Nicholas Cage spent time here, but were able to leave when filming was finished. See where the movies were made and where the real gangsters stayed. Tours daily, taken out to the Island by boat. Cassette tapes (in most languages) are available to walk you through the prison grounds and are very informative. Make sure you don't miss the boat back though. There are no restaurants on the island and the kitchen hasn't been used in decades.
Ghiradelli's SquareHome of the famous Ghiradelli Chocolate. You'll have a "taste" of some of the best shopping and chocolate available.
San FranciscoFrom the Historical Clock Tower, to the famous Coit Tower and down the most crooked street in the world-Lombard Street, there is something for everyone. The cable cars stop near Ghiradelli's Square and run through streets that you may have seen in some of your favorite Movies and TV shows. Excellent seafood can be found throughout the bay area, but if you find you need to supplement it with a really good cheeseburger and a chocolate shake, the Hard Rock Cafe is just moments away. Drive (or walk) across the Golden Gate Bridge. The scenery is spectacular, especially at sunset. If you still have some shopping momentum left, take the bridge over into Sausalito. Quaint shopping and dining village in a beautiful setting with a fabulous ocean view. Continue a short distance north of Sausalito and you'll encounter some of the largest trees in the country at Muirwoods. Nature at it's best.
Napa ValleyBeautiful country with over 300 wineries, many of them open to the public for wine tastings. Choose your favorite; Robert Mondovi, Charles Krug, Sutter Home and Inglenook to name just a few. Some wineries offer an extensive deli with fresh cheeses, meats and breads; all the ingredients necessary for an impromptu picnic. You won't believe you are just an hour's drive from the hustle and bustle of San Francisco.
